Check out the sign. This store sells 'Sandwish'. We got a couple. They were pretty good. |
| July 2
We took an evening walk around the neighborhood. I saw this paint job and liked it. This house has been recently repainted. I like what they did with the contrasting colors of paint on the metal. |
| July 3
I went to Farmer's Market. I got a box of strawberries, including this mutant strawberry. |
| July 4
We took a walk around Heron's Head park and India Basin park. Yes, those are both within the city limits of San Francisco. They are in the Hunter's Point neighborhood, not a great place to hang out, especially at night. In the morning, it was quite interesting. In the evening, we stayed in and listened to the neighbors set off some large fireworks. I felt like we were living in a war zone. There were explosions all evening and much of the night. Most of the explosions seemed to be coming from the public housing projects down the hill. |

| July 4
This is a section of city street that goes entirely under Highway 280. |
| July 5
We went to dinner at a friend's house and saw this window display. In other cities, stores have window displays. In San Francisco, private residences have window displays. |
| July 6
I was late going to Dive Bar which meant I caught this view of City Hall at night. |
| July 7
This is someone's house I passed by on the way home. |
| July 7
For some reason, the cat likes to sit in the tub just after someone has taken a shower. |
| July 8
This is a passion flower in my garden. I went to my volunteer shift at hospice in the evening. |
| July 9
This is my drive to the South Bay. What if Devo played lounge music? What if a lounge band, complete with stand-up bass, played Devo songs? Then you would have the Mongoloid Lounge. It was one of those nights. We went to the Odeon. Mongoloid Lounge was the opening act followed by Rubber Boy and then Atta Boy & Burke. |

| July 10
I baked another loaf of bread that doubled as sculpture. We went to a BBQ with a wide variety of stuff on the grill. This fish went on the grill. This time, Frank Chu did not make an appearance at the BBQ. I have ripe tomatoes in my garden. I haven't eaten any of them yet. |
| July 11
I went to the East Bay today for my Dharma Study group. I baked whole wheat bread. I need to send in the registration form for the Vajrapani retreat. I NEED to do this. I feel much anxiety about going on retreat again. It's been three years since my last retreat. I feel like I'm confessing something. I still have Devo songs stuck in my head from Friday night's show. This is my garden again. |
| July 12
Here it is Monday and I STILL have Devo songs stuck in my head. Those are catchy tunes. They are stuck in my head. I need to listen to some other music to displace the Devo. This morning's annoyance: a neighor who's car alarm goes off with every passing bus or loud motorcycle. It stops after a few minutes but then it goes off again the next time a bus passes by. Since I live on two bus lines, buses go by fairly frequently. Today I made hummus. I did not bake bread. Maybe I will bake bread tomorrow or Thursday. This is a fountain downtown near the Ferry Building. |

| July 13
I met a friend for breakfast at 7:30AM which seemed kinda early to be getting breakfast out of the house. We saw some geese and other birds during a walk around Lake Merritt. In the evening, we went to Dive Bar. |
| July 14
These are ripe tomatoes in my garden. I went to the South Bay during the day and to my knitting group in the evening. Patsy Cline has replaced Devo as the songs stuck in my head. |
| July 15
Today's baking: banana bread and a whole wheat/oat/polenta/rice bread. In the evening, I went to hospice. |
| July 16
This is one of those days. I started the day by catching the sleeve of my robe on fire when making tea. I got the fire out without burning myself, even though my arm was inside the sleeve at the time. The rest of the day was more interesting. This is the Sundial bridge in Redding. |
| July 17
I'm turning into a Sparkle groupie. This is Sparkle on the road in the road-race portion of the Corvallis Kinetic Sculpture Race. |
| July 18
This is Sparkle going through the mud. |
| July 19
After the race, we went to Ashland. We had a wonderful outdoor dinner & spent the night with friends. The next morning, we drove to Eureka. We passed through Happy Camp where we found this creature. |
| July 20
This is Li Po. We brought out own light bulb so we could see what we were doing back here. This was another Dive Bar gathering. We had a stack of snapshot photo rejects. We have no idea who these people are. We added captions & made up stories about the people in the photos. |
| July 21
These tomatoes are some of the ripe ones in my garden. I ordered two books on lace knitting. They arrived today. I seem to have a strong attraction to lace knitting, despite an uneasy feeling that this might be a Very Bad Idea. I knit sweaters and socks and toys and stuff. Lace requires following a pattern without changing it. This might not work for me. I spent the day catching up with an old friend. |

| July 22
We went to a wonderful breakfast at a friend's house. This is the view from their living room. Look at the base of the hill. There is a collection of condos. That is where my mail is going. I live on an avenue in a completely different part of the City. Someone decided to rename the street with the condos with my same street name but that is a 'way' instead of an 'avenue'. I have a doctor's office call me to ask for my correct address because the post office returned the mail saying my address didn't exist. I think my mail is going to this new 'way' street where these new condos live. In good news, my new crepe pan arrived today. I made crepes. |
| July 23
We went on a Berkeley garden path scavenger hunt with about 40 other people. This picture was taken at the start of the game. |
| July 24
I hosted a plaster casting evening. These are the casting supplies at the ready. My kitchen still has bits of plaster everywhere. |
| July 25
This was one stop on a complicated bachelor party journey. No, I'm not going to post the details here. |
| July 25
This is another stop on the complicated bachelor party journey. |
| July 25
This is another view from the same place. I'd like to go back to this location and do some serious photography. |
| July 25
This is yet another stop on the complicated bachelor party journey. That opening goes to the ocean. I was standing inside a cave when this picture was taken. This is near the old Sutro baths in San Francisco. |
| July 27
For a Dive Bar gathering, we went to see OutFOXed at the Odeon. After the movie showing, someone brought a video of road building. She also had a truck coloring book.. Someone else was pleased to see all the large construction equipment. On the walk home, we saw this laundry on the line. I had to play with the brightness & contrast levels to get anything to show up. That's why the image looks a little strange. Maybe I should have just used a flash instead of trying to take this hand held. This laundry has boxers at one end and women's panties at the other end. |
| July 28
I went to my knitting group in the evening. As I was walking to the coffeeshop, I saw the fog. This is a San Francisco phenomenon. The sky can be blue and sunny until the fog comes in. Here the fog is starting to come over the hills. It looks ominous to me. As I was looking through my knitting needle collection today, I wondered: why didn't Buffy ever off a vampire using a bamboo knitting needle? |
| July 29
This is another hat. Believe it or not, the two hats will turn out the same. I made the red hat a few months ago. I finished the brown hat tonight. Well, I finished the knitting part. Now comes the 'felting' part. I'll throw this in the washing machine a couple times, put the hat over a mixing bowl to dry and then I'll have another brown hat the same size and shape as the red hat. In the evening, I went to my hospice shift. I discovered that my wrists are smaller than one of the resident's wrists. For some reason, I've become very conscious of my wrist size over the past few months. I have small wrists. |
| July 30
After an unproductive drive to Palo Alto, I came home to bake some bread. I made rosemary, oregano & garlic bread. We took it to a buttoning party. We are going to a costume wedding on Sunday. The toy soldier costumes are not yet done. Someone discovered an efficient way to attatch buttons using a metal skewer and zip ties. Earlier in the week, the bride's car died. They borrowed a friend's van because they needed transportation before the wedding and because it was helpful to be able to haul stuff around in a van. Sometime during the buttoning party, the van was stolen. |
| July 31
We went to the South Bay for another wedding-like gathering. This wasn't the actual wedding. They are doing the celebrating before the actual event. The weather was unseasonably cold. I was very glad I had thrown my wool coat in the trunk of the car at the last minute. The groom (who I know) and bride (who I just met) seem very happy. |
