We took a stairwalk aroundd Golden Gate Heights. This was another walk out of the Stairway Walks in San Francisco book.

We took a walk around Grandview Park. I hadn't thought there were any hills in this area of San Francisco. I was wrong. There is one hill and it's impressive.

The walk started with a long, steep staircase.

San Francisco has some funny intersections. This is where 14th & 15th Ave intersect at right angles. In most cities, two numbered streets would be parallel but here, the streets intersect when they curve around the base of the hill.

This is part of the steps down the hill.

Once again, I am surprised to find a windswept hilltop in the middle of this densely populated urban area.

This park is called 'Grandview Park' and for good reason.

The hill has a few trees on top.

This is the flat part of San Francisco, looking over the sunset out to the ocean. Until the 1940s, this area was all sand dunes. It was known as the Outer Lands.

This isn't part of the park. This is someone's property below the park.

San Francisco has stairways.

This is an alley off the main walk route. I like finding this alleys. This reminds me that San Francisco isn't all about the cable cars and Pier 39.

I think this is one of the more impressive stairways. While this picture was taken in early June, I wonder what it would look like in the Spring. I would hope things wouldn't be quite so brown.

This is some exposed rock. San Francisco has some interesting geology.
2004.06.18_13.30.19
This was one of the more strenuous walks we've done. This walk had a lot of long up/down stairs.

I don't know what this bird is.

While San Francisco has a good reputation for having interesting architecture, I don't think that reputation was earned because of houses like this.

This representation of a rabbit was in someone's garden. I don't know what's around the rabbit's neck. I think the rabbit needs some paint.

This garden looks to be well manicured with many concrete figures. I like my gardens more wild than controlled.

After the walk, we went for sushi at this restaurant. This is in a Chinese neighborhood with Russian influences. Yum Yum fish is run by a bunch of French guys who keep the latest French soccer scores on the board with the daily special.
