The Old Mint

We went on a tour of the Old Mint. There is an effort underway to restore the mint and make it into a museum.

This is part of the vaults. The silver coins left impressions against the walls. This is another door to one of the vaults. These are some of the gas pipes that fed the gas lights throughout the building.

This machine was more appropriate for extracting gold than for turning gold into coins. Still, it's a part of the mint. This thing is too big to move so it stays where it is.

Notice the detail on the hinges. Some of these walls were actually steel or iron. There wasn't much wood to knock on. The doorknob also had good detail.
