April 2
I spent much of the evening defending my dinner from a dog. I did ask the owner to hold the dog while I was eating but she kept forgetting and soon enough, the dog would be back trying to grab some of my dinner.

April 3
This is a dirt road. Severn Street, in the middle of San Francisco.
A friend showed me this alley.

April 4
The pope died so I figured it was time for another picture of the pope-mouse.
Yes, that is a real taxidermied mouse.

April 5
We took our junk mail to the beach to burn it. We saw the green flash at sunset over the ocean.
Burning a pile of paper takes longer than I had thought it would.

April 6
This is the cat's paw.
We went to the Dr. Hal show.

These are columbine blooming in my garden.
I went to my hospice shift in the evening.

I think the cat likes my sweater. Actually, she seems to like anything I've knit. Hand knit sweaters are her favorite sleeping spots.

This is Ames Street, another fairly obscure alley in San Francisco.
We went for a walk while planning a scavenger hunt game to be played in this area.

We took an early morning walk around Mission Dolores. This is preparation for a photo-scavenger hunt we will do in the next month or so.

April 13
I need to do my taxes.

April 14
After spending some quality time with Tax Cut and wondering why I didn't see any of the money that the IRS seems to think I made last year, I decided to do an extension.
In the evening, I went to my hospice shift.

April 15
We went to a Tax Day BBQ. We thought of dressing as death and taxes but it was too hot.
I tried to bake a loaf of my breast bread for the BBQ but I was short on time so I ended up rushing the rising time and the bread didn't work. The dough stuck to the mold. Sometimes this project works. Sometimes it doesn't.
This is me with some strange Japanese candy in my mouth.
I'd been given an additional hospice task Thursday night that I couldn't complete Thursday night so I went back on Friday.

April 16
We went to visit Coyote Point, a San Mateo park. There are many of these little pockets all around the Bay Area. In general, pepole don't know about them. We walked around the coastline. We may go back and ride bicycles along the bike path.

April 17
I thought this was a funny looking fire hydrant. This is outside the place where I met my Buddhist study group.

April 19
The Northern Mockingbird is back.
Last year, we were terrorized by a Northern Mockingbird which attacked any creature (human, dog, cat) which dared to venture into the back yard. The bird suddenly disappeared after a while which meant I could reclaim my garden again. Today, I noticed that the bird is back. It doesn't seem to be as aggressive as it was last year. I'm hoping the nest is in the 'canyon' down the hill, away from my garden.. I kinda like it when the bird comes to visit but not when the bird claims my garden as home terrritory and attacks me when I go to plant tomatoes.

April 20
It's a bad sign when the band starts to play and my first thought is: I hope this is a short set. Fortunately, it was a short set.
We went to the Dr. Hal show. It's now official. There will only be four more Dr. Hal shows.
I asked three questions and got two shots of Fernet. (Fernet is awarded to questions the game show host likes). I think Fernat is a noxious liquid. I wasn't going to claim either shot but peer pressure got me to take one. A 'pinch drinker' took my second shot, with a straw.
My questions;
1) How did pink flamingos come to be popular suburban lawn ornaments?
2) Why do priests vow to not marry while nuns vow celibacy?

April 21
We went to a BBQ at the Albion Castle.
I took a lemon pie. The light wasn't very good on the deck where they were serving food. I heard several people wondering about the quiche. I think they were very surprised to discover the 'quiche' was a lemon pie.

This is the approach to one of the tunnels.
I took this hand held with no flash.

San Francisco real estate is known for being an insane market with listings often attracting many offers. Finding a house to buy in San Francisco is something like playing the lottery and it helps to have already won the lottery.
This is my favorite house listing so far. They only claim that the 'ghost' has appeared in the past. They do not claim it will continue to visit the new owners.

April 23
This is a wreck near my house. I heard the horn going off and walked outside to see what had happened. I didn't see what had happened. The SUV seems to have been going much faster than the posted 25mph speed limit in order to push the sedan into the parked van. Both airbags deployed in the SUV. The driver appeared to be uninjured. The driver of the sedan seemed to be complaining of head dizziness or something. He was awake and talking when the paramedics arrived. He was thinking well enough to be able to disconnect his horn.
Later in the morning, I went to Farmer's Market. This is strawberry season. I bought my first half box of strawberries.

April 24
This is the cat.
A couple friends came over for brunch. I made strawberry crepes.

April 25
This doesn't look like a person but that really is me underneath those covers. I tend to burrow and not move when I sleep. Sometimes the cat sleeps on top of me.

April 26
This is a doorway in Bernal Heights. I like walking around my neighborhood. I always find something unusual, like this.

April 27
I guess the drycleaner is closed.

April 28
It rained last night. This is good for my garden.
Tonight was my last night at hospice. I've volunteered for three years. It is time to take a break..

Compare this to the February shot of the same place. Spring is here and everything is growing.

April 30
The passionflower is starting to cover the fence.
The vaccuum cleaners have a story of their own which I'm not going to tell here.

April 30
I planted the end of my tomatoes today. Kitty came outside and helped. Well, she sat on the patio and watched. I guess that counts as 'helping' in cat-terms.
Today, I was accused of being domestic, as in "Ozzie & Harriett." This is because I knit, cook and garden. I knit penguins. I bake strange shaped bread. I garden nothing unusual other than heirloom tomatoes. I will not buy a tomato at the grocery store. I've been spoiled by homegrown tomatoes for too long.
