November 1

This is my kangaroo leg.

I was on Light Rail this morning when a woman said "oh, you're knitting!" She seemed surprised to see someone knitting. I guess she didn't get the memo about knitting being all hip and trendy. Then she asked what I was knitting. "a sweater?" I answered "kangaroo." She wasn't expecting that. She didn't know what to do with that answer and just sunk back into her seat.

November 3

This is one of the dogs at work. I took pictures of the sweater so I could get a better idea of how to knit a dog sweater.

Tonight, I hosted a Tupperware party of sorts. A friend got married a few months ago. I figured her husband might have forgotten a few things about sex in the past few months. To help remind him, we did a girl's night with a Tupperware party for sex toys.

One of the attendees started going on again about how I could sell my knitting. She had asked me to knit her something in the past. But she didn't want a hand-knit hat. She wanted a cheap hat. I won't be knitting for her.

November 4

I never quite know what I'll find when I come home. Well, tonight I had some warning. This is a projector screen in the living room. The living room is turning into a home theater. We watched a movie although I think we need a new projector. The current one is loud and needs to sit right in the middle which makes it difficult to sit up on the couch. We need a ceiling mounted projector.

November 5

Today, we listened to a webcast of the dalai lama at Stanford. Compare the two projectors. These are both InFocus projectors. The small one is much nicer.

November 7

RIP kitty. Today was the day.

Tomorrow is election day. I have 22 messages on my answering machine. They are all recorded messages about things on tomorrow's ballot. I'm trying to figure out how to get my name OFF the political telemarketing list.

November 9

This is the bathtub. There is no kitty. Something is wrong about that.

November 10

I took this while waiting for the train at the 22nd Street CalTrain station.

November 11

The lower sign isn't supposed to be there.

VTA struck again. They had some power problems, completely disrrupting Light Rail. I tried the 'bus bridge' which resulted in a whole lot of waiting around for crowded buses and trains. Eventually, I got to the Mountain View CalTrain station, long after the last bullet had left for the day. This put me on a train that stopped in San Bruno. We ended up going to Lowe's hardware and then to dinner. VTA consistently has problems. CalTrain is consistently on time. CalTrain has issues with announcing random stops and no way to determine which train goes where until after you're on the train and already moving. But CalTrain gets places on time in a reliable manner. VTA is just usually late.

Friday night at the hardware store is quite the exciting place. Our routine is that I go sit on a chair in the plumbing deparment while the person who is actually going to build stuff roams the store, picking out parts. The nice man in plumbing knows me by now. He just laughed when he saw me show up again tonight.

While I sit and wait in the plumbing department, I get to look at all the toilets. One had a label "Toilet-to-go." This amused me.

November 12

This is 'spaghetti' for my Flying Spaghetti Monster.

More search terms used to find this site: "stolen panties laundry women" "it s not broken it just lacks duct tape" "how to serve peanuts" "briefcase full of booze" "cross stitch elvis" "amar akbar anthony photos"

Everyone should bid on this. Winning the auction isn't the point. Well, it might be part of the point. I think the real point is money being raised for the National Center for Science Education which is having some silly, but dangerous, battles to fight these days. I still rembember in my high school when the star of the football team told the class that Evolution couldn't possibly be true. If it were, monkeys would still be turning into people.

November 13

This is the first prototype knit Flying Spaghetti Monster. I'm going to felt it tonight with my laundry. I'm making an idol. I wouldn't call it a 'graven image' (it's made out of yarn) but this is definitely an idol.

November 14

This is the new ceiling mounted projector in the living room.

Sometimes I can get a bit obsessed with things. Last night, I dreamed about trying to go to dinner at a pasta restaurant with a lot of little rooms. We got lost in the maze. When I woke up, I had two good ideas for how to make the FSM eyestalks. The corn-like thins I tried earlier just don't work, as is evident in yesterday's photo.

At work, we went to lunch at the Old Spaghetti Factory (at my suggestion). It was NOT a religious experience.

November 15

This was one of those days. I managed to spill tea down the front of my sweater.

November 16

This is Flying Spaghetti Monster 2.0, pre-felting.

November 17

This is Flying Spaghetti Monster 2.0, post-felting. I think there is going to be a version 2.5.

My current commute listening is a book by the Dalai Lama: The Universe in a Single Atom. He just started taking on Intelligent Design. I'm liking this book. I'm also learning something, both about Buddhism and the scientific method.

I now own PastaMonster.org. I'm not sure what to do with it at this point but I'll do something.

November 18

This is new version of the knitted Flying Spaghetti Monster.

November 19

I planted 75 bulbs this morning. That leaves a little over 200 to go. I'm not allowed back into a garden store until I get these bulbs into the ground.

I'm still tagging photos. This is going to take longer than planting bulbs. I'm up to January, 2003. That means I'm still 2 years behind with probably 30,000 images to go. The good news is that once this is done, it's done and I don't have to go back and wonder about who was in what photo ten years from now.

I did my Turkey Day shopping run today. Well, I got all the stuff that doesn't have to be particularly fresh. Safeway on a Saturday is always a zoo. The Saturday before Thanksgiving is worse. The store is filled with people who should really consider letting someone else cook.

I'm also realizing that I have somewhere between 8-12 people showing up on Thursday. I only have 8 place settings.

This year, we're doing Turkish food. There will be no Turkey at my Turkey Day meal.

November 20

For Turkey Day, I'll be cooking Turkish food. I started today with 'Turkish Delight' which turns out to be a real dessert, not a made up phrase. This has to set for a couple days so I made it this afternoon. I'll start the baklava tonight, too. I also did a loaf of dark rye bread so there will be stale bread for a Turkish walnut sauce.

I'm still watching the list of search terms used to find this site. "trebouchet" is still running near the top (#3) this month. 3 people got here by looking for "drunken elves." Other terms: "kitties in the tub" "giant snake pictures" "lds matching pairs" "girl with power tools" "knitted frog hats"

November 22

This is part of a sweater I knit on my commute.

I bought more dishes. I now have place settings for 12. This is enough for Turkey Day.

November 23

pastamonster.org now (mostly) works. Want a pastamonster.org email address? It's yours.

We went to the Dr. Hal show tonight. My question about absolute truth won me a 'KROB moment' which put me on stage for two shots of Fernet, that evil liquor that tastes like furniture polish.

November 24

This is my new favorite bread, Ekmek. This is a light and fluffy Turkish bread. It's mde with white flour and olive oil. It has a crisp crust.

We made Turkish food for Turkey Day. Turkish food means Ekmek bread, white bean dip, a cucumber/yogurt dipping sauce, pita bread, Turkish green beans (no Cream of Mushroom soup, just green beans, fava beans, onions, spices & yogurt), walnut chicken, a fish thing on a kebab, zucchini fritters, lamb fritters, borek (phyllo and spinach) and for dessert: Turkish Delight and baklava (pisachio and walnut). My kitchen trashed and there is not a turkey in sight.

November 26

This narcissus is something I'd planted a long time ago. Now it's blooming.

Today, I finally finished planting bulbs in my garden. I put more than 200 in the ground. It helps to use a shovel. Forget the dainty garden trowel. A shovel is the only tool to use when planting this many bulbs. Now I am allowed back in the garden store although there isn't anything else I'd be tempted to buy until February.

Today, I gave away my bread machine. I hadn't used it in over a year. The Kitchenaid mixer does a better job and I use it once/week. I also sent some sourdough starter with the bread machine. That's a powerful force. I don't know that it will be used for good or just to make a mess.

November 27

I finished this small afghan.

November 29

That's Santa in that tree.

November 30

This is what's left of Mira, the cat.
