I finished knitting my six fingered glove.

This is a radio that works with a crank. Now I think we've got everything together for our earthquake kit.

I seem to be losing interest in this site. I'm not taking as many daily photos. I'm not updating as frequently as I used to do. I am, however, checking my web stats obsessively. I am amused that the #1 search term used to find my site in September was "trebouchet". In October, "tee shirt folding" leads the way.

This is my new red bowler hat after one trip through the washing machine. It will take three before this looks more like a hat and less like a bucket.

We took a road trip to the DARPA Grand Challenge. On the way, we stopped in Lathrop at the minimart-invaded-by-space-aliens. We bought Hawaiian shirts (made in Russia) and cowered as a woman lit up a cigarette at the gas pump.

We saw 'history being made' as the announcer was fond of saying. This is one of the robots at the DARPA Grand Challenge.

October 9
On the way home, we drove past a giant cattle feed lot.

Once again, I saw someone on the train who hadn't realized they were on a Bullet/Express train. I don't know their intended destination but it was somewhere closer to Redwood City than Milbrae (where they ended up). CalTrain really needs some better signage to tell people which train goes where.

It's time for more amusing search terms that people use to find this site. This month, "napkin origami" is tied for first place with "tee shirt folding" Other terms: "knit dildo pattern" "weird pumpkin carving" "jello wrestling" "pictures of boron" "trebouchet" "elvis cross stitch" "descartes replies" "how to defrost sausage" "john wayne gayce" "george clooney nude" "cat tail gets poofy" "plaster cast of head got stuck" "alpacas shearing table"

Next week, we're hosting Bollywood Bingo. The movie? Amar, Akbar, Anthony. The center square will be the scene with a monocoled Abraham Lincoln emerging from a giant Easter Egg and bursting into song. There is another scene with a transvestite backup band. I couldn't make this up.
In order to make the bingo cards, we have to watch the movie again. In watching it again, I've decided it's actually a quite enjoyable movie. It isn't too predictable (who could predict the giant Easter Egg scene?). The movie kept making me laugh - everything from the goat fleeing the hut to the cheesy special effects when the couple runs to each other from across the room.

This morning, we take kitty back to the vet. I think the news isn't going to be good.
While the news isn't encouraging, there is some hope. Maybe. She's had a shot of steroids which seem to help her breathe. She's much more alert than she had been. The underlying cause is still unknown and probably untreatable. For the moment, she seems better able to get around and participate in the world. .

We've been on a quest for the perfect kitchen storage containers for builk food. This is the result.

This is sunrise from the train on my way to work.
For Thanksgiving this year, we're doing a meal of Turkish food. Because I have no idea what 'Turkish' food means other than coffee, we did some research by going to dinner at a Turkish restaurant.

Today's picture is a book you should buy if you'd like to learn to knit. Yes, I have an interest (a pattern) in this book.
Tonight's commute was difficult. Light Rail went to single track for some reason. I still managed to get to CalTrain in time to make the connection but CalTrain also had difficulties. From the San Jose station, there isn't any way to know which train is departing from which platform without going into the station. While there was a train at the platform where the bullet was supposed to be, the doors weren't open. A conductor told us that train was going south. When the doors opened on a train on the opposite track, I tried my luck. When the train began moving north, I knew I was at least going in my desired direction. After we got moving, one of the conductors announced that this was, indeed the bullet. I'd guessed right.
I took the bullet to Milbrae where I attempted to board BART. BART was also having some difficulties. I've never seen a BART train move with the doors open. It was only one set of doors but still...that isn't good. A bit later, the train just stopped. Eventually, I got to Balboa Pak where I attended the monthly community meeting for my local police district.

This wek was ISP Con. Many exhibitors were giving out free booze.
There seems to be a crossword puzzle group forming on my evening Light Rail train.

The news on kitty isn't good. The probable diagnosis is lung cancer. She's never been in a house where anyone smoked. Still, she can't breathe very well anymore.
Here she is sitting on the towel that's on top of her heating pad on top of her favorite chair.

This is a pair of baby booties that I finished. The baby is late but I should still get these delivered.
We went to Safeway. Something was wrong with the scale at checkout. The leeks ended up being priced at $92.

October 23
This is a final version of the current red bowler hat. I think it might need one more trip through the laundry.
We played the Bollywood Bingo game with the movie Amar, Akbar, Anthony.
I cooked (vegan curry, Indian flat bread, whole wheat bread and jello in the form of eggs). The eggs were because of the scene where one of the characters jumps out of a giant Easter Egg and sings a song. The flat bread turned out to be a great way to set off the smoke detector when I did the final toast over the gas flame.

This is Mira. She's doing better but she refuses to eat anything other than tunafish. Even then, she won't eat much.
We get some strange messages on the home answering machine.
Evidently, Alicia (whoever that might be) needs her money. We recorded some of the messages here.

While my commute may be long, it comes with views like this. I enjoy sitting on the train in the morning and watching the sunrise.
I prefer sunrises to sunsets. There's probably a magazine quiz somewhere which would use this preference as the basis for some insightful judgements on my personality.

I opened a drawer at work and found this. It had been left by the previous occupant of my cube.

This is supposed to be a pumpkin. I guess I didn't plant early enough. This isn't going to make it in time for Halloween.

October 30
We 'raced' in the Bernal Hill Soapbox Derby. Well, I went for style points. My vehicle isn't at all fast. In fact, I need multiple pushes to even get down the hill! This year, I managed to keep my hat on for all runs. At one point, some guy jumped over me. I didn't quite know what to do with that other than keep going. I'm thankful he didn't land on me.

This probably isn't obvious but that picture is a spider. This seems appropriate for Halloween. I walked out of work to find this spider hanging from a tree.
