West Valley Alpacas

We drove to Sacramento to go to the open house at West Valley Alpacas.

Some of these alpacas have been sheared and others have not.

With no fur, they look kinda funny.

The animals look kinda bald and freaky with this tuft of fur around their head and nothing else.

This is the shearing table device.

First, they have to lure the alpaca into the device.

Then they snap the device shut. Now the alpaca is caught and not going anywhere.

Then the table is fliped upright. This reminded me of a spit. It looked almost like they were going to grill the alpaca, not shear it.

This is before they have the legs tied down.

The alpaca is partly sheared on one side.

This alpaca hasn't been sheared yet. I think alpacas are just the cutest things around. They also produce very soft yarn.

These are the alpacas getting to know each other again after the white one lost all the fur.

While the animal looks funny, I'll bet it feels much better to have less hair in the hot Sacramento weather.
