Amtrak

Alviso, Drawbridge & Fremont

This was another train trip, from Santa Clara to Oakland. I want to go back and ride this segment of rail again. Part of the trip goes through what's left of Drawbridge, a ghost town in Silicon Valley that's slowly sinking into the marsh at the edge of the San Francisco Bay.

Part of this trip goes through Alviso, a strange part of Silicon Valley that I think didn't make it to the 60s, let alone this century. There is water on both sides of the train in some placed.

This is what's left of Drawbridge. This is supposed to have been quite the happening place during Prohibition. When I told someone about this ghost town in Silicon Valley, they said "oh, that isn't really Silicon Valley." Despite the rustic appearance, this is between Cisco and Sun.

The train also goes past a salt mine. Being Amtrak, the trip was subject to random delays. At least we got to stop at an interesting place.
