Strange Caricature Contest
|
Another Dive-Bar Travesty: STRANGE CARICATURE CONTEST From some dictionary somewhere: Car-i-ca-ture: (n) A grotesque imitation or misrepresentation
Imagine you're walking around Fisherman's Wharf, and you hear the call from a street vendor who will draw your caricature for three bucks. What colors will he choose for your complexion and hair? Which prominent features of yours will he exaggerate? What will you do with the horrible portrait once you get it home? At the Philosopher's Club at West Portal, the owner slapped his caricatures up on the wall for all to admire. So naturally, we're going to show up and create a few works ourselves. This is a special emergency Dive-Bar outing*, because the Philosopher's will close down at the end of the month. And it's one of those unique bars that will never be replaced, because no one in their right mind could ever produce a time-worn ambience quite like it again. Bring sketch pads, drawing pencils or markers, and unusual facial features. (Enormous ears or fluffy hair-dos get bonus marks.) * We normally wouldn't have another drawing activity so soon after the one two weeks ago, but we have to visit this place before it disappears. It's the last bar with any real character left at West Portal. |
