Abstract Concept Pictionary
|
Yep, the Fourth of July us almost upon us, and the Dive-Bar gang is going to celebrate this glorious holiday by doing nothing related to it whatsoever! No flags! No fireworks! No patriotic jingles!(That's not to say that we didn't want to do something along an Independence Day theme, but I just couldn't come up with any ideas that could be safely done in a bar. Oh well.) So instead, it'll be an evening of group creativity in the form of... ABSTRACT CONCEPT PICTIONARY You all know how to play Pictionary, right? You get a word on a little card and try to sketch it out while your partners attempt to guess what it is. That's all fine and well, but the words they give you in the real game are third-grade items like 'coat hanger' or 'nostril'. We're going to turn this into a high-brow drinking exercise by making up our own words on scraps of paper, and then one person goes up in front of the whole group on a white board and gets to struggle with things like 'besmirch', 'arbitrage', and 'crapulous'. Whoever guesses the word gets to go up next. (We don't use the board-game for this most of the pieces are missing anyway.) The whole process continues until we've depleted every word in the Oxford English Dictionary, or all of our beer money, whichever comes first. A piece of white-board has been located, but we could still use an easel, dry-erase markers, and enough people showing up so we can bicker over an ambiguous drawing of a duck that someone will insist is actually a Spoonbilled Widgeon.
