Trophy Room - 1811 Haight Street

Crappy Caricature Night

Back by (un)popular demand, it's...

CRAPPY CARICATURE NIGHT!

"Oh, God, no more caricatures!" I hear you say. The results from the Philosopher's Club outing (back in May) amply proved that the Dive-Bar group has little talent in the way of drawing, but that's simply because many of you never had the opportunity to adequately practice your latent artistic talents. So we'll give it one more go, again at a bar with plenty of examples on display. The ceiling of the Trophy Room on Haight Street has many well-drawn caricatures tacked up for creative inspiration, although I never found out who drew or posed for them. Consider that an investigative challenge when you arrive.

Once again we'll wield our pencils, glitter pens, crayons, and whatnot to draw gross misrepresentations of each other and unsuspecting bar patrons, using draft beers as filters for our imaginations. However, the twist this time is we'll portray everyone as we think they looked as a baby. So that means lots of bulging foreheads and pudgy cheeks, with maybe a hint of drool at key composition points. Here's an opportunity to walk away with that baby picture you never had, complete with a bare ass on a bear rug.

Bring the usual supplies for this activity; markers, finger paints, pads of paper, a pre-arranged alibi to give your family that claims you were actually somewhere else on this evening and not drawing stupid pictures while getting drunk. It might help if you also bring other baby pictures and paraphernalia to get the visual style down. And if you need an additional creative boost, well, the abundant street vendors on Haight Street would be all too happy to provide the necessary enhancements.

-----------------------

Reading between the lines: So why are we doing another last-minute venue change, particularly this one? Because later on and right near by will be Baby Head Bocce, an unrelated yet similarly skewed activity that I've been planning to attend but completely forgot that it was also on a Tuesday. (See the Squid List for details.) This dive-bar outing is actually a thinly-veiled excuse for some of the participants to be in the neighborhood, so we can head over to Golden Gate Park after we're through drawing strange pictures of each other. And the baby theme is just a way for us to get in the proper mood for the later activities.

But nevertheless, bad caricature drawing is always a suitable activity for bar-bound artistes of all inclinations. Wear your beret and/or bib and we'll supply the Gerber's Strained Olives and Vermouth.
