A few people have suggested this, so it looks like we'll be taking the show out to the desert next week:

DIVE-BARS IN THE DUST!

Since a lot of people will be out at Burping Man during the last week in August, we're going to go on a bar crawl through Black Rock City. Keep in mind that these won't be, strictly speaking, dive-bars (unless there's a swimming p ool involved), but it's the best we can do under the circumstances. Also remember that you can't actually buy drinks (or anything else for that matter) on the playa, so you'll need to beg, borrow, or barter your way into cocktail hour. So bring items that are worthy of trade, BYOBooze, or plan on doing something out of the ordinary to earn your drunken stupor.

We'll meet at The Restaurant at the End of the Playa (Esplanade / 4:45) which is an army tent with a small-scale burning man sculpture out in front. The theme is taken from Douglas Adam's Hitchhiker series, so plan on sampling a Pan-Galactic Gargle Blaster. From there we'll roll along to the next available theme bar, wherever it may be. If there's a dust storm, plan on staying put until it passes. We'll try to leave notes pointing to the next destination as we move along for latecomers to catch up.

If you're running a bar in your camp and would like to join the circuit, please let me know before Saturday, Aug 25, or else drop by our tent on the playa. (Leave a message with your BRC address if no one is around.) Bar owners get one free drink in exchange at all other bars, while participants must supply froody barter items or other favors.
