Design California's New Quarter
|
California's official state quarter design will start circulation in 2005. But there's one small problem - the design hasn't been chosen yet. This is good news for us, because we can still marshal our vast creative juices (and appropriate mixers) and submit the official Dive-Bar California Quarter entry! There's a full article about the situation in the Chronicle: http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/chronicle/archive/2002/09/22/BA122496.DTL We'll supply the material to draw on (most likely paper plates), you supply the writing instruments: Sharpies, crayons, lipstick, blo-pens. According to the submission guidelines, "Designs should avoid controversial subjects or symbols likely to offend." But since our tolerance for controversial material is different from that of, say, a typical San Diego resident, we might come up with some 'unusual' entries. Remember that dead Californians are eligible, so a historical collage including Jim Jones and Richard Nixon would be fair game. Or consider taking the opposite approach by working the town of Boron into your design and be as uncontroversial as possible. Note also that this bar is also a full-service karaoke lounge, so spontaneous singing may break out from time to time.
