Guardian Ad Deconstruction
|
Earlier this year this group won some sort of award from the SF Bay Guardian. Well, they didn't give us any cash, but there are lots of free papers sitting unread in boxes and we might as well do something with the damn things. Here's the drill: everyone clips out the most pretentious or outrageous ad they can find, and we all swap ads using the Magic Dive-Bar Redistribution Machine (ie. a paper bag.) Then we interpret the deeper meaning of the ad, getting 'inside the head' of the creative ad writer as it were, and we add commentary using text found elsewhere within the paper. Hey, does that yuppie leering at the hotties in the Budweiser ad need a PENIS ENLARGEMENT clipped from the back page? Are the flirtatious chicks actually EGG DONORS in their spare time? Maybe they all need to meet up with a FUN-LOVING BEAR WHO LIKES POWER TOOLS in the personals. You get the idea. Grab a pair of scissors from work along with a glue stick and some white-out, and then pick up a Guardian on the way over. Bruce Brugmann will thank you for it later.
