I made a tam

At Stitches West, I bought a copy of Knitted Tams by Mary Rowe. This is my first attempt at a tam. It's kinda fun!

I followed the instructions for a basic tam, with a few variations. I used Jameison & Smith wool, the left-overs from my first Fair Isle sweater.

This tam is too small. The pattern said to expect a 10" diameter tam & it turned out a 10.25" diameter tam, after blocking. I cast on 144 stitches to start and then followed the general pattern, choosing a couple border patterns and then using a version of the Sweet Melodies chart from the book. Of course, my colors were different and I have to say I learned a LOT about color in this exercise...mostly about what NOT to do with it.
