In April, 2001, my .com blew up & I started an adventure.

Stacey plays tourist
San Francisco is known as a great tourist destination. Even though I live here, I haven't been to many of the tourist sites, other than Pier 39 (two visits with out-of-town cousins). Now that I am unemployed, I decided to play tourist.

First stop was dropping off the car at the garage. I want to do an extended road trip now that I'm unemployed. Before leaving for Deadwood, Oregon, I wanted to make sure the clutch was going to make it. I left the car at Pat's Garage & went away.

Then I needed to figure out where to go. I started at the Powell Street cable car turnaround since I needed to buy my May FastPass, anyway. People stand in long lines to ride San Francisco cable cars. I figured this would be a good place to find a tourist map of interesting tourist destinations. I didn't have a plan for my tourist adventure and didn't particularly want to make one. I wanted to just wander around & see what I could see.

Of course, my first stop wasn't a real tourist destination at all. Instead, I wandered up to a park near my old office. This is a park where I'd sometimes go to have lunch when I didn't want to run into anyone. While this park is centrally located in the financial district, it seems that almost no one knows about it. As far as parks go, this one is kinda scruffy. Maybe the park maintence people also forgot it exists. This statue in the park has always interested me. Ever wanted to see a huge statue of Sun Yat Sen? This is where to find it.
The back of these buildings face the park. They look to me as though they don't belong in San Francisco. This is way too much brick for earthquake country.
