Why a Daily Photo?
Since August, 2001, I've been taking at least a picture a day and posting it on this site.
The intention was not to do an online journal or blog. Any similarity to an online journal is accidental. That's a side effect.
My motivation for starting this project has more to do with training my eye than with recording history.
I used to write at least a page each day. I kept this up for several years. After doing a few 10 day meditation retreats, I became convinced that words confuse me. They get in the way of actual experience. I'm missing a lot by just writing about it.
I knew there was beauty around me that I wasn't seeing. The goal of my daily photo project is to encourage myself to seek that beauty. By having an assignment to take a photo each day, I encourage myself to look around myself. While I look for my photo, I notice a lot more than I would have if I hadn't been looking for a photo. This has made my life better. I'll keep doing it.
At this point, I have more than 60,000 images. Finding one particular image can be a challenge. I've put some thought into image organization and tagging. This is my solution.
