June 2

This is a lemon cake being transported to a birthday party. Yeah, the cake looked kinda funny but it tasted good. There are three lemon cake layers with lemon curd & butter frosting in the middle.

This was part of a baking/cooking bonanza that I did over the weekend. Last night, I made spaghetti sauce from scratch. Then hummus (from scratch). This morning, I made lemonade (after picking the lemons from the Meyer lemon tree in my garden), a lemon pie, banana bread, rosemary/garlic bread, and washing/topping a half flat of strawberries.

All of this was for a friend's dinner party (hence the bday cake) & my knitting group & also just because I like to cook.

June 3

It's 300 pounds of cinder blocks in the trunk of my little baby Honda.

June 4

Cinder blocks getting painted. Can you say 'domino?'

June 4

Kitty resting after a long day of keeping an eye out for the neighbor's surly bunny.

She's on her cat basket which I knit.

June 5

I've been thinking a lot about communication, recently.

June 8

Goth/Bunny naval battle in Stow Lake, Golden Gate Park.

We wuz peaceful bunnies, out for a Saturday row in the park when all these scary Goth types showed up with their powerful water propulsion devices.

(row boats move faster than paddle boats)

June 8

Me as a wet bunny, wearing the Emergency Bunny Hat, after getting doused by water guns loaded with Duck Soup (anti-freeze color, liquid duck excrement in smell & consistency) water of Stow Lake.

June 9

The All American Meat Market...currently under construction to become a vegetarian restaurant.

June 10

It was a very hot day. So we put ice on top of the cat. And a few other things.

There was an eclipse later in the day. I stepped outside of the Laguna Honda Hospice (where I was volunteering), made a pinhole with my hand & looked at the funny crescent shadow on the sidewalk.

June 11

I went to the Brass Ring Career Fair. Not many employers, MANY wanna-be employees.

And where's that economic recovery?

June 11

Afterword, I hung out in the park with a duck.

Then I went to my investment club meeting.

June 12

Imagine that, a FedEx truck parked next to a fire hydrant!

June 12

I did another City Guides walk. This was the Gold Rush walk, much about the ships buried under the Financial District.

June 13

Kitty checking out her new digs-to-be, a model tipi. Notice the Power Tools Drag Race trophy in the background.

(part of a test for a Burning Man shelter structure.)

June 13

Outside of Laguna Honda Hospital as I arrived for my shift at the hospice.

I volunteer with the Zen Hospice Project, a program which has seen donations drop drastically since 9/11. Zen Hospice can use your help.

While I was working at Hospice, the fire alarm went off. Then we heard sirens. We weren't sure if it was a test or a real fire - in which case we would have to evacuate the ward.

June 14

Me with Zegnatronic Frank Chu at a bar stop along the Flag Day Parade route.

Just a short comment about my fave soap, Passions on NBC. I got hooked on it when I worked at NBCi. Now I watch it now & then. It has the usual soap opera plots using tricks like amnesia, high risk pregnancy, murder, two sisters in love with the same man and a few new ones like cousin Charity being replaced by a demon zombie. Today had one of the main charcters miraculously reappearing. Everyone thought he was dead, boiled in a vat of tuna. But no, he's alive & with Timmy, the small person actor playing a boy who used to be a doll, animated by a witch. But Timmy believed in Good and became a Real Boy. Now he & the guy who's supposed to be dead spent today skipping down a yellow brick road with a dog named 'Toto.' At the end of the Yellow Brick Road, they find a castle with a bar inhabited by clown munchkins. Gotta love a soap that doesn't take itself too seriously...

June 16

It's a happy egg, in my refrigerator.

Last night, I went to an unique 'art opening' - a viewing of a friend's 100+ photo albums recording San Francisco history.

June 16

A grasshopper on a window...we found each other when I was walking from my knitting gathering to the Rudy Rucker(s) Tentacle Session.

June 17

I went to the Haight to buy a book. As I was walking back to my car, I found this sign on the sidewalk.

June 18

I went to my Hospice training class. Then I called to see what was up & heard that I NEEDED to come out to the Legion of Honor, on the other side of the City. So I did. Imagine my surprise when I drove up to a huge crowd of people and a giant Tesla coil. It was a small size SRL (Survival Research Labs) show being done as part of the entertainment for the Webbys!

This picture was taken with a flash.

June 18

This picture is fuzzy because I quit using the flash. The flash tended to wash out things in front of the Tesla Coil.

There were other machines beyond the Tesla Coil. Everything played nicely together, more or less.

June 19

What WERE they thinking? A Taco Bell in the Mission?

June 20

First ripe tomato of the season! I haven't eaten it yet. It's still waiting.

June 21

I baked. A lot.

This is a peanut butter cake (really! and it turned out quite good!) It was a birthday cake for a friend. This same afternoon/evening, I also made tabouli & hummus (from scratch), a lemon pie (friend wanted the recipe so I gave him the recipe along with another pie) and Thai coconut milk soup (Tom Kha Gai without the chicken, using mushrooms & tomatoes instead).

June 21

After baking, we all got dressed in formal wear (tuxes & long black dresses) & headed out for the caves for a (literally) underground minibar event. This isn't a great photo but the ocean is right below that cliff/drop off. I'd like to go back here sometime in the day time so I can see what this tunnel is all about.

June 22

It's the Albany Landfill Block Safari! Deluxe (and a friend) did a HUGE amount of work, hiding blocks all over the landfill. Teams of three went in search of blocks, racing to be the first one to get 5 in a row with their color.

Today, I am VERY tired, sunburned & have one monster blister on my foot.

June 23

Coit Tower, at night, in the Fog.

This is on the way home after an evening at a bookstore, seeing some Charles Gatewood slides and some imprompru belly dancing (by everyone). oh, and a fire dancer. There was a woman dancing with a flaming sword, inside the bookstore. I wondered whether the overhead sprinklers were going to go off or only the smoke alarms.

June 24

I finished a sweater.

June 25

I came out of BART to find a lampost on its side. Somehow, no one was hurt when it fell. I dunno what caused it to fall - might have been wind & a rusted base. There was much wind & the base had eroded away.

I was on my way to the Saloon (oldest continuously operating bar in the City of San Francisco) for SF Trivia Night, another Dive Bar activity.

June 26

I went to Filoli. For some reason, I had it in my head that the movie, Harold & Maude, had been filmed at Filoli. At Filoli, we kept looking for things we recognized from the movie. There wasn't anything. Harold & Maude was actually filmed at another Peninsula estate, NOT Filoli.

Still, I enjoyed seeing the mansion & grounds.

June 29

Sandwich got the Sandwich.

I thought about playing Marco Polo using cell phones with some friends in the Pink Saturday crowd but opted to head home earlier, rather than later. But not before stopping by the Odeon for the Seemen show...

June 30

...and not before seeing this. On my way home, I found a midnight religious service in progress. No, I didn't go inside. I just stood outside & took a picture.
