This has been a productive weekend. I've been feeling that I've been so overwhelmed with too much to do & not enough time in which to do it. It's been good this weekend to get a lot done. I hung drapes (including drilling more holes in the wall) in the living room & the kitchen. And..they're straight. I dug more in the yard & planted romaine lettuce, broccoli & onions. And finished with the semi circle of Irish Moss.
I also planted something called 'Datura' that had a label that said "3x3 blue trumpet" so I bought it. When I got home & looked it up in the Sunset guide, I discovered that my new plant tends to take over the yard, grow beautiful trumpet-shaped flowers which are poisonous. It's related to Jimson Weed. Well, I planted it. We shall see if it grows or not.
I trimmed the lemon tree & generally weeded everything. The compost bin is full & the yard is looking great.
So what's new? Well, it's a bad week to go to an amusement park. You've probably been reading the same news stories. Two of the problems were here in the Bay Area (the kid who fell & the upside downroller coaster that got stuck). Jennifer moved out last weekend so I'm roommate-less again. But Tina (who I work with) is likely going to move in end of September/early October. She has one other place she's looking at so we will see. The housing market here is still so very very tight that there isn't a huge amount from which to choose. The paper said housing prices went up 13% in my zip code in the past year. That's a good rate of return. We shall see if it stays.
The other house news has to do with the stove. The stove I have now was a bargain. It was free. A friend of mine was remodeling her house & said could have her stove if I wanted it. All I had to do was pick it up. I managed to make that happen...and now this thing scares me. It's vintage "too early to tell" and it scares me. Every so often, I think I smell gas near it. The oven requires a match to light. Two of the burners only work when they want to which isn't very often. So, instead of waiting until I have the time/money to remodel the whole kitchen, I opted to get the stove I want now instead of waiting. Yesterday, put down a deposit on a new Thermador 36" gas range. It's going to be very nice...4 burners plus a griddle in the middle. Of course, it won't be here for a month but until then I can look at the pictures & hope my existing stove doesn't explode in the meantime.
