You thought California was going to slide into the ocean when the Big Earthquake hit. Well, it may be true that California will slide into the ocean but it won't be because of an earthquake.

It will be because of the rain.

This week has been fantastically wet. The rain has been coming down non-stop for several days. The ground is saturated. Everything is soaked. My house has some water leaking from the entry stairs into the basement/garage. The water is soaking a major supporting beam. Ron's called a contractor to try & get someone out to fix it. Predictably, there is a long wait behind other people with similar problems. Many houses have leaks/mudslide problems.

Earlier this fall, as I watched two houses across the street get new roofs and not a drop of rain anywhere to be seen, I was wondering if El Nino was a fabrication of the building industry to stimulate the Bay Area economy. Well, now there's rain & El Nino is real. Bill, who I used to work with, was woken up at 2:30AM one morning this week when a chunk of wet plaster landed on his neck. The plaster was followed by water. His roof has a leak. It's supposed to be fixed, now but this weekend will certainly be the test.
