It's Saturday afternoon & I'm home paying bills.

I decided to actually read the back of my garbage bill. It says that they are not responsible for lost pets. Now why would the garbage collector feel the need to disclaim responsibility for lost pets? Maybe their trucks have special dog attraction devices that encourage dogs to chase the garbage trucks. But that doesn't make sense either. Dogs don't need any encouragement to chase cars and garbage trucks aren't particularly fast vehicles. Well, it's a mystery to me.

I liken it to the mystery of pom poms. Last night, at the Stanford vs. Cal basketball game (Stanford won!), one of the Cal cheerleaders lost one of her pom poms in the middle of a routine. She went along with the other nine cheerleaders doing their little cheerleader routines. And I wondered...who invented pom poms? And for what purpose? I decided they had been invented by someone who didn't know what to do with their hands, perhaps Jack Benny.
